First Year Teacher, Rappahannock High School

May 2025

Throughout the year, Ben was incredibly helpful and supportive of me during my first year of teaching. While we didn’t communicate much, which was often due to me forgetting to respond to him, when we did communicate, it was always filled with helpful tips and pointers. When he first came in, he walked me through each and every unit that I had to teach this year, while explaining what to spend more or less time on. He also shared a drive with me that I was able to access throughout the year, as well as a student notebook that I was able to look at and use in my own teaching. Once my initial testing was done, he reached out to ask about scores, and to help me get ready for retakes by sending me more resources to use.

Overall, Ben was an extremely supportive person throughout my first year teaching that I am very grateful for. I was able to see, and use, things that he uses with his own students to make them successful, that I would not have had otherwise. As mentioned above, I didn’t always remember to respond to his emails, but I knew he was there if I needed him, which is much appreciated.

As an educator striving to provide the best learning experiences for my students, I am incredibly grateful for Mr. Phelps and Assurance Education program. Assurance truly helped me in my approach to teaching the World History I curriculum. Their system equipped me with the tools and resources I needed for my students to excel in the classroom.

From day one of working with Assurance Education, I was impressed by their dedication to supporting me and my students. Mr. Phelps is a knowledgeable professional who is passionate about teaching students and empowering teachers like me. From our opening consultation to today, I know that if I have a question or concern, he is only an email, text, or phone call away. I have never experienced this level of support from a company! Assurance makes you feel like you are a part of a community of educators that care about your students and their success.

Once our school partnered with Assurance I was trained and given resources that allowed us to create lessons that allowed me to focus on my student’s needs. I really enjoyed reading about a strategy and then seeing it used in a real classroom setting through Assurance Education’s video resources. The lessons provided by Assurance are dynamic, engaging, and foster collaboration between students in my classroom. My students come to class everyday excited to find out what we were learning about that day and what activities we would be doing. Assurance’s lesson plans are full of hands-on activities that reach every student’s learning style. Students even enjoyed taking notes in class and creating interactive notebooks.

More importantly, we have seen a great improvement in our SOL scores. Before working with Assurance Education our SOL score were well below that state standard. After the first semester our department saw a 40% increase in the SOL pass rate for World History I. As we finish up this year, I am hopeful to see a 50% increase from last year!

Overall, Assurance Education has had a profoundly positive impact on our scores, but more importantly our students. Students come into class confident and expect to do well on every assignment and the SOL. I also feel more confident as an educator working with Assurance Education. I highly recommend Assurance Education to any teacher or school looking to improve their World History progrsm.

"I am really excited about the preliminary results for WH1. So far,
1. out of 54 students, 38 or 70% of students passed. 2. out of 54 students, 16 or 29.62% of students did not pass. 3. Out of the 16 that did not pass, 12 or 75% of students qualify for retakes. 4. Out of the 30 non-honors class students,18 out of 30 or 60% passed. 5. Out of the 24 honors class students, 20 or 83% passed.6. Remediation has been going really well, so I expect these numbers to continue to rise."  World History One Teacher, Nottoway High School  Fall Semester 2024

"I was completely in awe of the quality of this review packet for the World History SOL. The framework and layout of the material were top-notch and easy to follow/understand. My son was able to cover a lot of information in a succinct way. The sheer amount of information given was essential for the success of my son's SOL scores. With the help of this resource's recorded lecture links, notes, terms, concepts, maps, visuals, and assignments, my son surpassed his state's SOL score requirement."  Parent  / WH1 Student Fall Semester 2024

"Mr. Phelps is truly a gem. He provides teachers not only with a wealth of resources , kind words and support, but he also is a beacon of light. Sometimes as teachers it is nice to have professional development from someone who actually understands the obstacles in the classroom.  His aid throughout this semester has been pleasant and rewarding. He truly is a remarkable educator."  Diedre Felice, Nottoway High School Spring Semester 2023

"Student engagement levels increased after the consultation by ten percent. SOL scores improved by twenty percent. Student mental maps and map reading skills improved through repetitive map drawing. Cultural landmark drawings helped with mental images of the different civilizations. I borrowed similar strategies for World History II with improved student engagement and map comprehension." Daniel Morris, Southampton High School Spring Semester 2023

Teacher, Southampton High School

"Mr. Phelps methods have shown improvement in the classroom. SOL scores have increased & are projected to continue to increase in the coming school year. The greatest result is in the inclusion classes and those students with lower reading skills. Their scores had substantial improvements compared to following years. The drawing & repetition strategies of the course strategies greatly improve lower-level reading students & inclusion classes as a whole." Andrew Williams, Southampton High School Spring Semester 2023
